Testimony
of Healing by Lloyd Hodgkinson
There have been two occasions in recent times when I
have suffered from irregular beating of my heart. The first time was
after the celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary and I, who hardly
ever take a drink, put down two bottles of champagne, with nothing to
eat.. Foolish you say, no, stupid. I was diagnosed with Atrial
Fibrillation and had to be admitted to a Clinic. None of the medication
succeeded in settling the heart rate and cardio shock treatment had to be
administered on both occasions. This worked and I was told to avoid all
stimulants for the rest of my life.
On Sunday June 1st, 2008,
we flew eight hours from London, Gatwick, to Barbados. Starved for a game
of golf, due to the weather both in Dubai where I had to stop cause of
heat and in the UK where I stopped cause of the cold and rain, I went to
Westmoreland for a game. After 15 holes I became aware of irregular beats
and stopped playing. Somehow the jet lag and physical exertion resulted in
a stimulant. After attending doctors and cardiologists in Barbados and
Trinidad, I was placed on medication once again and told to return after
the weekend probably for an Echo test and Shock treatment. I remember in
years gone by that shock treatment was only given to mad people. Well this
is obviously different, okay! Naturally I prayed for a healing over and
over.
Sunday June 8th 2008, Angela and I attended Holy
Mass at the Living Water Upper Room Chapel. This is the norm for us once
we’re at home in T and T. After climbing the steps and greeting all my
Living Water friends I could feel the irregular beating in my chest. At
the time of Holy Communion, as I held the Lord in my hands I said to Him,
“well Lord, how about it, how about healing my irregular heartbeat”. And
as I placed the Host in my mouth and swallowed I flippantly said, “see
you’re passing right near to it now”. Ever since the visit of Sister Mc
Kenna to our community I had formed the habit of saying something to Him
when receiving Holy Communion. Usually I just say ‘Hi Lord, I love you’ or
‘I praise you’ or something like that.
After Mass I had an appointment for another blood
thinning injection so off we went. On the way home I said to Angela “let
me see if the Lord healed me at the time of Communion” and I checked my
pulse. There were perfect rhythmic beats. I smiled and told her “I did
not feel a missed beat”. We were both near to tears and as soon as we got
home we sat down and gave thanks. In writing this I am giving thanks.
Since then a song has been ringing in my head:
“He touched me, yes He touched me
And oh what a joy has filled my soul. (not sure if
this line is accurate)
Something happened and now I know,
He touched me and made me whole”.
Thank You Lord, truly You are a Loving and Merciful
God.
I hope and pray that all who read this will believe
that the time of receiving Holy Communion is very special and remember to
say something to Him. Yes, He is always with you but that time when He is
physically present in your hands is so extra special.
Thank You and Praise You Lord, Jesus I Trust in You
and know that all things will turn to good.
Amen.
