"Do you believe at last?  Listen; the time will come –
in fact it has come already – when you will be scattered,
each going his own way and leaving me alone.
"
(Read John 16:29-33)

For each of us, at a certain time in our life our Faith becomes alive; it is a time when we have been further converted and we feel the presence of Jesus and the Holy Sprit in our very being.  It is at this time that Jesus may be saying to us the above words: ‘Do you believe at last?’ and the warning that follows. This is because, for the majority of us, our Euphoria is short lived; we come down from our mountain top, from our ‘cloud nine’ with Jesus, and in a short time are caught up with the busyness of this world to the exclusion of our Lord and Saviour.  We are ‘scattered’, involved in much activity, maybe even in church ministry, but completely forgetting to whom and for whom we are ministering.

Jesus asks us to spend one hour with him in the Blessed Sacrament, at least once a week, but we can’t find the time; we use the slimmest of excuses so that we do not ‘waste time’ with him, as he requests.  We ‘each go our own way and leave him alone’.

Lord Jesus, we love you and we want to serve you but at times we ignore the very source of our existence and of our energy; we neglect you, our loving Saviour. We know, as you said, that wherever you are, the Father is because you and the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, are one and that we have nothing to fear because you have conquered the world with all its troubles and difficulties.  May we never forsake you again but may we find peace in you each day as we set aside a few moments to be alone with you and as we spend more time with you in the Sacrament of your Love.  AMEN
