"Therefore you too must stand ready because the
Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
(Matthew 24:44)

I once read a bumper sticker which said “some of us wait on the 11th hour to serve the Lord, but quite often he calls us back at 10.59”  This Gospel passage calls us to be ever vigilant, prepared, conscious, alert.  How can we obey this call?  I believe by being faithful in our relationship with the Lord; being attuned to him at all times and in everything, listening for his promptings, praying to him for increase faith and trust,  by seeking to know and do his will, and being willing to see Jesus in each other. We must also keep in mind that this exercise is not accomplished until we get his call, it is a work in progress.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your love for us, for you not only sent your Son to die for us, but you have allowed us to know that despite the sacrifice made for our salvation, we also have a part to play, we have to be like the servant whose master’s arrival finds him at his employment, Happy indeed is he.
